Bylaw 127
We ask that you read this bylaw closely to understand the allowable and restricted uses of CBBID supplied water. The bylaw is available here and will download as a PDF.
In June of 2018, the district responded to two instances where home owners had left the island for more than 2 days, and have failed to turn their water off at the street, resulting in two major water losses.
In one case, the homeowner's hot water tank failed while they were on vacation. In the second case, the homeowner had a sprinkler hose attached to the district water, and the hose burst. The district lost thousands of gallons of water from these two cases.
.Our bylaws require that your water is turned off at the street (district connection) if you are off island for more than two days. Secondly, in the case of the sprinkler hose, district water may only be used for internal domestic use. .
Please refer to the bylaw linked above, or contact our administrator if you have any questions about water usage.
Conservation
To aid in our conservation of water, we recommend installing low flush toilets.
With a copy of your receipt for purchase and installation, the District will provide a one time $100 rebate.
Monthly Water Usage
Water meters are read monthly. Please see our Meter Readings page for monthly postings.
Note:
Since August 2016 we have been posting monthly water usage values in litres. There are a couple of reasons for this change;
The expectation of the District is that homeowners will not exceed 15,000 litres in a month.
This is an upper limit as most homes with 2 full time residents will be in the 7,000 to 10,000 litre range.
Any homeowner using more than 15,000 litres in a month will receive a letter alerting them to this higher than average usage.
Home owners are reminded that District supplied water is for domestic use only. This excludes outside plant watering, car washing, power washing or other non domestic uses. Please contact the District Administrator, Rebecca Skiffington (5206) if you are not sure if a particular use is allowed.
The District encourages homeowners to install rainwater collection system for non domestic uses and water saving appliances such as low flush toilets for water conservation. District Trustees are happy to provide advice on rainwater systems and water conservation methods.
Contractors
Contractors employed by you for activities such as power washing, roof cleaning or gardening who require water as part of their work cannot use CBBID water. The contractor must either use your collected rain/well water, if you have this source, or must bring their own water.

Note:
Since August 2016 we have been posting monthly water usage values in litres. There are a couple of reasons for this change;
- Canada operates on the metric system
- For many people a litre is a more familiar unit of measure than a gallon
- Equipment such as meters and tanks come in US Gallons or Imperial gallons depending on the supplier so using litres is a way to have a common measure.
